Welcome to Hobart 2019!

Perhaps you’re new to med school, and have no idea what is going on. Maybe you’re a little more advanced in your medical degree, and wonder why so many people have this love for costuming. It’s okay to be Convention-curious, so here’s a bit of a background for you.

What is Convention?

The Australian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) National Convention was started some years ago, when a group of Queensland medical students gathered around a pint to share their experiences of medical school. Fast forward 60 years, and the AMSA National Convention has turned into the largest student run event in the entire world. More than 800 medical students converge in one city for a week of inspiring academic sessions, interactive networking events, and spectacular social nights.

In 2019, Convention will descend on Hobart, Tasmania.

What happens at Convention?

There are four days of academic sessions which involve incredible plenary speakers, breakout sessions, workshops, networking opportunities and field trips. For a mid-week break we have Sports Day which features an intervarsity sports competition and the Emergency Medical Challenge. At night, you’re given the opportunity to show off your costuming skills at our sensational themed social nights. The mind-blowing week culminates in the Gala Ball – your chance to get a little fancy, enjoy a 3-course meal and celebrate with your new-found friends.

Hobart 2019 Vision

Hobart Convention 2019 aspires to host an event, reflective of Tasmania, that connects, inspires and empowers delegates by creating extraordinary experiences.

We can’t wait to see you in Hobart to Unlock Your Potential.
